"1(a) The teacher regularly assesses individual and group performance in order to design and modify instruction to meet learners’ needs in each area of development (cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical) and scaffolds the next level of development."
In the beginning of my solo teaching unit, where students did a project on the geography and culture of different countries, I gave students a pre-assessment to determine what students knew about the countries they were researching. This pre-assessment showed me that the majority of the students were lacking basic knowledge of both the geography and culture of these countries. For example, most students did not know what continent the country they were researching was on, or even what a continent was. Furthermore, the majority of the students did not know what language was spoken in their research country. As a result, I designed lessons where students learned what continents are, were able to name all seven continents, and could identify what continent their research country was on. I guided students in research that allowed them gain information about these countries’ cultures, such as what languages these countries speak. I have provided two pre-assessments. One of them shows a student who did not know the geographic location of their research country. The other assessment shows how a student did not know what language was spoken in Italy. These pre-assessment indicate the students original lack of understanding. In order to show how I addressed these misunderstandings, I included a worksheet that the student completed during a geography lesson. I have also included a page from a student's Google Slides project, indicating that the misconception of what language is spoken in Italy was adreesed. Therefore, I have changed instruction to meet areas that students struggled in.
