"2(a) The teacher designs, adapts, and delivers instruction to address each student’s diverse learning strengths and needs and creates opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning in different ways."
Because the third grade class I student taught in had two SPED students, I had many opportunism to design lessons that met the needs of students with diverse learning styles of abilities. This artifact is a math lesson that shows how I used a variety of teaching methods to provide each student with an opportunity to learn. This lesson taught students twos multiplication facts, and I used manipulatives to help the two SPED students understand the concept of twos multiplication. Because these students struggle with multiplication, the opportunity to count blocks into groups of two allowed these students to develop a more concrete understanding of twos multiplication. This activity also allowed the students who are not in SPED to better understand twos multiplication facts as well, as they also benefited from this more concrete means of learning. Additionally, I assigned one of the SPED students fewer problems to complete, as the SPED teacher told me that doing so would increase his confidence and reduce his anxiety towards school work. The lesson plan that I have provided was adopted from Stepping Stones, and shows how I have planned instruction with the intention of meeting the needs of each student I teach.
