Artifact # 2: Reflection on encouraging students to create original work

One of the unforeseen challenges I encountered when guiding students through their informative writing and Google Slides projects was that some of the students copied the texts they used as research rather than presenting the information in their own words. Before teaching this unit, I was not aware that I had to explain to the students that although informational writing requires research, the research must not be copied word for word from the sources. I therefore had to take measures to ensure that students did not directly copy information for their informative writing and Google Slide presentations. The reflection I wrote in regards to this discovery shows how I know understand the importance of helping students create original work.
