Artifact # 2: Fours multiplication lesson plan "4(d) The teacher stimulates learner reflection on prior content knowledge, links new concepts to familiar concepts, and makes connections to learners’ experiences."
It is important to connect knew concepts and skills to information the students already have. This artifact shows how I use instructional strategies that allow students to use prior knowledge as foundation to expand their knowledge. In this lesson plan, I introduced students to fours multiplication facts. Students used their understanding of twos multiplication facts to better understand how to multiply by fours. For example, in an earlier lesson, students learned a doubling strategy when multiplying by twos, in which they doubled the number they were multiplying by to find the answer. In this lesson, students learned to double twice, therefore building on their prior knowledge and learning a strategy for multiplying numbers by four.
