Artifact # 2: Assessment data used to guide instruction "7(d) The teacher plans for instruction based on formative and summative assessment data, prior learner knowledge, and learner interest."
During the social studies unit I taught as a student teacher, I carefully logged assessment results, using this data to inform my instructional decisions. For example, in the beginning of this unit, I gave students a formative assessment that revealed a lack of understanding in the content that would be covered in the unit. As a response, I used this data to guide many of the lessons I would teach throughout the unit. For example, many students did not know what continent their research country was on, or the languagespoken in their research country. Therefore, I planned lessons that targeted this lack of understanding. The assessments I gave after this lesson showed me that these student misconceptions had been met. Therefore, the assessment data I recorded guided my instructional decisions and allowed me to keep track of student progress.
